Calling All Pallets?

HGTV and DYI Network can be dangerous for me, especially the shows that are focused around designing your home with little money.  Ideas always start flowing and will for days.  Because of these shows we managed to remodel almost our entire home for the price that it costs to re-do just one bathroom in most of the high end shows.  And we don’t think the house looks half bad.  Of course we saved most of the money by learning how to do the entire thing ourselves with some help from our family.  To also save on costs 90% of the curtains I sewed myself, as well as most of the pillows and pillow covers.  Anyway……..I could go on and on about all the ideas that float around in my head that I eventually made come to life in my home.

We were watching the DYI network about a month ago and it was a show re-doing someone’s backyard.  The couple happened to want to do the same thing we are doing…..landscaping with plants that were edible.  What I found amazing is they did most of décor from reclaimed wood, or wooden pallets.  They made a bar and a sitting area from these things.  I was amazed at how awesome looking they turned out!  I was in awe to be honest.  So the next day I research DYI pallet ideas, and was amazed yet again at how many different things you can do with pallets!  Tables, beds, dressers, shelves, planters, sheds, the list goes on and on.

That is when it hit me……finally inspiration on how to decorate my backyard.  Remember, the backyard landscaping idea is meant to save us money, and is completely being done on a budget.  I wanted the decor to be cute and rustic looking. I always had an image in my head and just didn’t know how we would achieve it at a reasonable cost within the budget.   But now I know we can achieve it using wooden pallets.  The best part is we can get them for FREE! And most of the ideas I am finding can be done with minimal cost, usually just screws, stain and a few other things!  Of course for certain things only certain pallets can be used, especially if they are being used inside a home or to eat off of (pesticides and such are sprayed on pallets that are being shipped internationally). But the ideas are flowing……and we have started collecting pallets.  The first project up is a coffee bar to set on the corner of the deck complete with stools to sit on!  Next up will be an arbor for the new grapes to grow on!  The big project……a shed.  Yes, a shed.  So if anyone has any pallets they ever want to get rid of keep us in mind! We can use them!

And if you’re reading this in disbelief…next time you are bored, Google DYI pallet ideas and just see what I am talking about.  You will be amazed.
