Welcome to Our New Home

Welcome back to my blog!  It is the same old blog with a new look, and a new title, and a new dream!

Since before we were married, we have shared a dream of living somewhere in the mountains.   For a long time, it was only just a dream, something that we just loved to talk about for the longest time.  We were busy raising kids and building careers, and just weren’t ready.  Then about 6 years ago, we decided to buckle down, bust our behinds to get financially set so we had no obstacles, and make it happen.  The ideas evolved over the 6 years.  First it started out as buying a summer weekend cabin, with the idea of moving there permanently long down the road.  Then when we started looking around areas we wanted to settle in.  We even looked at the Smokey’s and Black Hills, South Dakota.  Eventually we decided that we just couldn’t leave our Rockies. A few areas were just not feasible, it would be too tough to find work.   18 months ago, we decided our two options were buying land and building a cabin, or finding a house already built, but taking our time finding the exact one.  Once we got our daughter to college it was go time!

And that leads us to where we are today.  Ironically the house we just bought, is the exact floor plan of the one we were going to build.  It might be a tad out dated, but it wouldn’t require a complete remodel down to the studs.  And THAT VIEW that we would get to wake up to everyday…….SOLD!  So here we are, nestled on just over 2 acres, on the top of Conifer Mountain.  We have traded our noisy suburban life for one of peace and tranquility.  We stood on our deck on New Year’s Eve, and heard NO fireworks.  None, not a one.  We went to bed and didn’t have to listen to them go off for the next 3 hours.  We were on our deck the other morning and heard a rooster and the lamas across the street answered.  And I thought, WOW, this is different, I like it.  We have traded seeing thing that one shouldn’t really see in the park, for the wildlife that comes through. SOLD!

We are in the next county over from the one we used to live in, and you can see the city lights from the end of our little street. We are 13 miles from “city” limits, and the amenities that city life has to offer.  A 45-minute drive from the neighborhood we grew up in.  Funny story, everyone seems to think we moved FAR AWAY!  But we did NOT.  I repeat, 13 miles from city limits, that offers an amazing commute every day.  GUYS, we can SEE the city from the end of our street!  Let that soak in.  We aren’t that far.  We are welcoming visitors.  We now have a large space for entertaining!  Just give us a shout!

We will still have a garden, and still focus on healthy living. The possibilities are endless ya’ll.  We can even have farm animals, creating a true homestead!  But these things at 9500ft will present a new set of challenges!  So follow us on our journey, or head up to the hills and visit us!
